SSG John William Winsper III, 27, an Alexandria native and veteran of two wars in Iraq and Afghanistan died Dec. 12 of natural causes in his residence. John is survived by his wife, Alaina Browning Winsper of Alexandria (formerly of Madison, MS); his parents Gary and Marian Truex Winsper of Silverdale, Wash., his sisters Katie (Tony) Koster of Dearborn, Mich., and Beth Winsper of Seattle, Wash., a niece Lucy Koster and his mother and father in law, Jon and Cheri Lafleur Browning of Madison, MS.

John attended Nachman Elementary and Our Lady of Prompt Succor in Alexandria. He moved with the family in 1998 to Silverdale, Wash. where he played football and was a state qualifier in wrestling for Central Kitsap High School. John was also awarded the rank of Eagle Scout by the Boy Scouts of America. He attended Washington State University, Louisiana State University and Mississippi College.
He was a proud member of the Louisiana National Guard, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant (E-6). He served in Iraq in 2010 and Afghanistan in 2011-12. He was a dedicated and professional member of the Louisiana National Guard until his death.
He was an avid enthusiast for Crossfit and worked to align his exercise and eating habits to the Crossfit lifestyle. He always loved to cook and would try anything new.

He married Alaina Browning Feb. 12, 2011 at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church. They resided in Alexandria and planned to make it their home. Alaina supported John through two deployments and the challenges of marrying a soldier.
John received his first communion, was married and will have his funeral at OLPS Church.
He will be missed by his wife Alaina and the Browning family, as well as his parents, siblings and friends everywhere.
