Mikey was born 4/21/1986 in Camarillo, CA.
Both Mikey's dad and I were active duty Seabees and I was in Antarctica when I found out I was pregnant. What a blessing this little boy was right from birth. Mikey would get used to moving every 3 years and making new friends. He had that sweet sincere smile and kids just gravitated to him. His favorite place ever was Guam, he always wanted to go back to Guam and being a Seabee himself he might have had the opportunity to return.
He joined the Navy in 2004 right out of high school and became a builder. His deployments took him first to Okinawa, Japan then back to Port Hueneme, CA then to Germany, Iraq and Kuwait then back to Port Hueneme, CA then to Romania and Bulgaria, then back to Port Hueneme, CA.
Mikey had just short of 4 years of active duty under his belt when he passed away in a tragic motorcycle accident, but he had seen so much of the world and lived a life only most of us dream of. He enjoyed everything from dirt bikes, jet skiing, snowboarding, skiing, swimming, diving and oh so much more. I often say to myself, " I wish I could live my life as Mikey did...he was loving life, no fear." His passions were his family and friends, food, and his many pets not necessarily in that order.
Mikey left behind his best friend and sister Vannesa Ortiz - they were inseparable, his sweet little brother Joshua King, two half-sisters Alisha and Ashley King, his madre Teresita Ortiz, his father Ronnie King and uncles, aunts, many cousins and loving friends. His friend said it best, "Mikey always had a smile on his face even on the worst days..."
Let's live our lives as Mikey did...
