Joshua R. Dumaw

Cpl. Joshua R. Dumaw, 23, of Spokane Valley, Wash., died June 22 while supporting combat operations in Nimruz province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, II Marine Expeditionary Force, based at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C.

Lance Corporal Joshua Robert Dumaw was born June 13, 1987 at Deaconess and grew up in Spokane Valley, WA. Joshua graduated from West Valley High School in 2005. He loved anything outdoors, from snowboarding to skateboarding, water tubing and swimming. He loved camping, riding motorcycles and fishing. Josh was always on the go and did just about everything with the exception of his homework at onehundred and ten percent. Joshua is survived by his mother Jennifer and step-father Mike Gorman; his father Andrew and step-mother Gia Dahlman; three brothers Adam, Kyle and Christopher; sister Abby; step-brother Austin; and step-sister Ann. As well as his cousins Trevor and Brooke Jurgens; his aunt Amy and uncle Troy Jurgens; his uncles Pat, Jerry & Eddy Dumaw; and his cousins Kristen, Megan and Anna; grandparents Andrew Reid & Connie Ray Dahlman, Pat & Eilene Dumaw. Josh was married and leaves behind his beautiful wife Kailyn Dumaw and their son-to-be, Joshua Robert Alexander Dumaw aka "Bodie" as well as Kailyn'sparents, Donna and Derek. Josh was an exceptional person who befriended anyone in any room at any time. The number of people Josh touched is truly overwhelming and says a lot about the person he was when words will never accurately tell his whole story. Before Josh became an outstanding Marine, he delved into the electrical field but soon discovered that it did not provide enough adventure for him. The Marine Corps came naturally to Josh and he excelled quickly from rank of Private to LanceCorporal in two short years, receiving one of his promotions while deployed in Iraq in 2008. Josh had successfully completed MP training and was looking towards his future, working in the law enforcement field after his career with the Marine Corps. It was announced on June 28th at hismemorial service at Cherry Point, NC that there will be a building on base named after Joshua in his honor. Joshua is also to receive the Purple Heart for his heroic efforts in Afghanistan. He loved being a Marine and what being a Marine meant. He was truly an inspiration to his family, friends and country. He lived every day as it was his last. Always doing what he loved to do the most.
